Getting back to Work
Dear Friends, 4/1/2020
Those of us who are overly concerned about when we will finally be able to “get back to work” may be missing the opportunity of our lifetime. There are things that we can work on now. Things that may never again be so readily seen or so easily accessible. When the disciples asked Jesus to proclaim the cause of a man’s congenital blindness, He gave to them the more essential answer, “What are we to do about it? What are we to work on?” If you can see something lacking, do something loving! It’s impossible to work on problems that can’t be seen, therefore, “we must work the works of Love as long as the light is shining, for in the darkness no one can work.”
COVID-19 has created an enforced rest, a secular sabbath that might truly be embraced by any of us as, “The Lord’s Day.” During this “Day” countless problems come starkly into the light. Broken, abused, and neglected things in our own hearts and in our own homes. Things that are easily brushed aside and ignored during the rush of our typical “work week.” If we act wisely and, “buy up the time,” we may come out of this season of sickness and poverty with an abundance of True wealth. As it is with our entire earthly lifespan, this time of troubles is a unique opportunity that will soon be over. “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that the efforts of Love are never wasted.”
